Why people bring their pensions together
Most of us change jobs several times. A pension is often left behind with each move — and over a working life that can mean four, five or more pots you’ve half-forgotten about.
One plan, not four or five
Easier to see what you’ve actually got, and easier to keep beneficiary details up to date as your circumstances change.
Investment choice that isn’t stuck in the past
Legacy schemes are rarely built around how people invest and draw an income today.
Charges you can see
Older pensions often carry higher fees that quietly reduce what you end up with. A review shows you exactly what you’re paying.
A retirement income you can plan around
Hard to plan anything sensibly when you can’t see the whole picture in one place
This isn’t automatically the right move — and that’s exactly why advice matters Some older pensions carry valuable guarantees you’d lose by moving — guaranteed annuity rates, protected tax-free cash, or safeguarded benefits. Final salary (defined benefit) pensions are a special case: if the transfer value is more than £30,000, you’re required by law to take regulated advice before transferring — and for most people, keeping a guaranteed income for life is the better outcome. An adviser weighs up the charges, the guarantees, any exit penalties and your own goals before recommending anything. That’s the assessment we’re not able to make for you — which is exactly why we introduce you to someone who can.

Common questions
Should I combine all my pensions into one?
Not necessarily. Consolidation can simplify things and reduce charges, but only an adviser who has reviewed your specific pensions can tell you whether it’s right for you — and which pots, if any, are better left where they are.
Can I transfer a final salary pension?
Sometimes, but it’s rarely the best move. Where a defined benefit transfer value exceeds £30,000, regulated advice is a legal requirement. Giving up a guaranteed income for life is unlikely to suit most people.
Will it cost me anything to enquire?
No. Your initial conversation with an adviser is free. Any fees for advice will be explained to you directly by the authorised firm before you proceed.
How long does it take?
It varies by provider, but a straightforward defined contribution transfer often completes within two to six weeks once instructed.
