Two ways to find a lost pension

What it costs depends on which you choose.

Route 1

Through an FCA-authorised adviser

  • Who it suits: people who want advice on what to do with their pensions once they are found.
  • Cost: free to enquire. The adviser firm explains any fees before you proceed.
  • Tracing: the firm may trace your pensions as part of its advice service, typically where they total £75,000 or more.

Route 2

Tracing only, with Pension Pie

  • Who it suits: people who simply want their old pensions found, whatever their size.
  • Cost: a paid service. Pension Pie currently charges £225 to trace up to five pensions.
  • Advice: none. Pension Pie tells you what you have and where it is held.

You can also trace pensions yourself, for free

The government’s Pension Tracing Service gives you the contact details for a workplace or personal pension scheme. You then contact each scheme yourself. Find it at gov.uk/find-pension-contact-details.

  • We dointroduce you to an FCA-authorised firm that specialises in it.
  • We don’tgive financial or tax advice, or tell you what to do with your pension.
  • We don’tmanage money or hold your pension.

Questions

Common questions

The things people most often ask before they enquire.

Do you give pension advice?

No. Pensions Advice UK is a trading name of GAP-GNX Ltd. We are not FCA-authorised and we don’t give financial or tax advice. We act solely as an introducer: we pass your details, with your permission, to an FCA-authorised firm that does.

Does it cost anything to enquire?

There’s no charge for making an enquiry with us. Regulated advice does have a cost, and the adviser must explain their charges clearly before you agree to anything.

How do I know the adviser is properly authorised?

Every firm we introduce you to is authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. You can check any firm yourself on the FCA Register at register.fca.org.uk.

Can you find a pension I’ve lost?

An adviser can help trace old pensions and look at them alongside the rest. You can also use the government’s free Pension Tracing Service to find a scheme’s contact details yourself.

What will I need to have ready?

Anything you have helps: old statements, the names of past employers and roughly when you worked there. Don’t worry if you have very little. That’s common.
